Kim Fields is known for her role as Dorothy "Tootie" Ramsey on the 1979 - 1988 NBC sitcom "The Facts of Life". In real life, Kim is the daughter of actress/director Chip Fields. Her older sister, Alexis Fields, was also an actress.

In the show when Fields played "Tootie", she was the youngest of the main characters at the age of eleven. She was the only African-American girl in the series. She and her family came from the Washington, D.C. area. She attended Eastland Academy for most of the show's run and she is most-remembered for her penchant for roller skates (this item was first used in "Facts of Life" to mask Fields' short stature). Her gossipy nature, braces, and all or nothing way of viewing life made her a funny and amusing person to watch.

In real life, Kim Fields had to wear braces for three years. Finally she got them removed in 1984, after the show started its sixth season. A lot of Tootie's gossip got her and her friends in trouble, and she was noted for her catch phrase, "We are in trou-ble!".
