The drum maker Paiste is originally from which country?
The drum maker Paiste is originally an Estonian company. Its founder Toomas Paiste, a Tallinn native, began his career by manufacturing cymbals for the Czar's music corps. The Paiste company was founded in his hometown Tallinn, Estonia, in 1917. Toomas' son Michail M. Paiste decided to concentrate on cymbal production and export. In 1940, when Estonia was overrun by the Soviet forces, the family and the cymbal-making operation moved to Poland, where they continued under extremely difficult conditions, and in 1945 to Germany.
Finally, in 1957, a new headquarters and production facility was established in Switzerland. The business was continued by Michail's sons, Robert and Toomas Jr., with both the Swiss and German operations as the main manufacturing centres. When Estonia regained its independence in 1991, a subsidiary was again founded in Tallinn in 1995.
Today, Paiste is one of the most important cymbal makers along with Zildjian, Meinl and Sabian. The name 'Paiste' means "sunshine" in both Estonian and Finnish.
