Alan B Mitchell, Washington means Washington State to people in the U.S., so inferring that Washington means Washington D.C. just doesn't work here. It's like calling England the U.K.--it just isn't correct.

It was in Washington DC, Washington is a state in USA. DC is the capital.

But it has never been held in Washington state, so that could not have been correct anyway. Should I complain that the question didn't specify "London, England", as someone might have thought it was London, Ontario?
