The Hen and Chickens, Dragon and Rabbit are all islands of which country?
New Zealand consists of many islands, estimated around six hundred, mainly remnants of a larger land mass now beneath the sea.
Dragon Island is a privately owned island off the northeast coast of New Zealand's Great Barrier Island, located 95 kilometres (59 mi) to the northeast of Auckland. The island provides Harataonga Bay on Great Barrier Island with shelter from easterly and southeasterly winds by blocking the bay from Pacific storms. It was once farmed but is now unpopulated and has reverted to scrub.
Rabbit Island is a small island that lies across the southernmost part of Tasman Bay, on the northern coast of New Zealand's South Island. The long narrow island runs east-west for 8 kilometres (5 mi), and covers 15 km2 (5.8 sq mi). It was formed about 7000 years ago as several barrier islands accumulated near the mouth of the Waimea River. There is evidence of Maori occupation for over 800 years. The original vegetation comprised tussock, manuka scrub and totara forest further inland.
The Hen and Chicken Islands (usually known collectively as the Hen and Chickens) lie to the east of the North Auckland Peninsula off the coast of northern New Zealand. These islands were named by Captain James Cook, who first sighted them on 25 November 1769. It has been suggested that the name was inspired by an old name for the star cluster usually known as the Pleiades.
