Didier Claude Deschamps was born on the 15th of October 1968 and is a French retired footballer who has been manager of the France national team since 2012. He played as a defensive midfielder for several clubs including Marseille, Nante, Bordeaux, Juventus, Chelsea, and Valencia. As a French international, he was capped on 103 occasions and took part in the FIFA World Cup final of 1998. He captained the French team that beat Brazil in the final in Paris.

Deschamps became only the third man after Mário Zagallo (Brazil) and Franz Beckenbauer (Germany) to win the World Cup as both a player and a manager when he managed the French team that won the 2018 World Cup, beating Croatia in the final in Moscow.

Mario Zagallo, played in Brazil's wins of 1958 and 1962 and was the manager for another win in 1970. Franz Beckenbauer was captain of a triumphant West Germany team in 1974 and was their manager for Germany's win in 1990.

Didier Deschamps and Franz Beckenbauer are the only players to have won the World Cup as captain and then to go on and win as a manager.
