Lhasa Apso is a long-lived breed; they are known to live up to fourteen years and are originally from Tibet. This dog breed was once considered a royal watchdog, but nowadays they are family companion pets who will do anything to protect their family.

In general, this dog breed is healthy, but just like any other breed, they are prone to certain diseases, such as cherry eye, patellar luxation, sebaceous adenitis (SA) and progressive retinal atrophy (PRA). In addition, Lhasa Apso needs a lot of grooming. Veterinarians also say that it’s very important to start their socializing process early to ensure that they are friendly around people and other animals.

Besides being the origin home of the Lhasa Apso, Tibet, on the lofty Tibetan Plateau on the northern side of the Himalayas, is an autonomous region of China. It's nicknamed the “Roof of the World” for its towering peaks. It shares Mount Everest with Nepal. Lhasa, the administrative capital of Tibet, is a hilltop site. The Potala Palace, once the Dalai Lama’s winter home, and Jokhang Temple, Tibet’s spiritual heart, revered for its golden statue of the young Buddha, are found at this location.
