The Mississippi National River and Recreation Area (abbreviated MISS) was established in 1988 to protect a 72-mile long, 54,000-acre corridor of the river through Minneapolis and Saint Paul, Minnesota.

This is a partnership park, meaning the National Park Service is not a major land owner and doesn't have control over land use. Instead MISS works with dozens of partners (local, state, and federal governments, non-profits, businesses, educational institutions, and individuals), who own land along the river or who have an interest in the Mississippi River, to achieve the National Park Service's mission to protect and preserve for future generations.

The Saint Anthony Falls Historic District in Minneapolis, the Historic Fort Snelling at the confluence of the Mississippi and Minnesota Rivers, and many additional trails and programs are prominent attractions. There are two visitor centers - one located at the Science Museum of Minnesota and the other at the Upper St. Anthony Falls and Dam. Each year, the rangers manage community activities, including interpretive sessions, bike rides, and movies, that help to educate the local community about the natural and human history of the area.
