The Palazzo Braschi building currently houses the Museo di Roma. Previously, it was the location for which of the following?
Taken in 1934, the picture is Benito Mussolini's “Italian Fascist Party” headquarters, located in Rome, Italy, in a building originally called the “Palazzo Braschi”. It was a large neoclassical palace. Construction started in 1790, designed by the Italian Cosimo Morelli. The palace was built by the papal nephew Duke Luigi Braschi Onesti.
It was the local headquarters, not the national headquarters for the Facist Party in WW II. Behind the facial image, is the propaganda lettering "SI SI", translated "YES, YES", suggesting to the Italian people, to vote for the fascist regime during two successive plebiscite elections.
To vote, Italians were given two ballots and two envelopes that were color coded. The "YES" ballot was in the colors of the Italian flag with fascist symbols, and the "NO" ballot was a white sheet. The voter placed the ballots in envelopes, put his or her chosen ballot in a ballot box, and returned the discarded envelope to a voting supervisor- the supervisor then checked how each person had voted.
Known as "Il Duce" (The Leader), Mussolini ruled from 1922 to 1943. He was executed by a firing squad along with his mistress Clara Petacci on April 28,1945.
