What is the name of the process in which plants lose water into the atmosphere?

How is it more people got this wrong than right? This is something we all were taught in school. There is a reason other countries are ahead of us.

A solid basis in Latin would help all school children later in life.

even when I was in school it was proven Canadian students knew more about U.S.A. than American students. I personally think every student should either leave cellphone,tablets etc.. in the lockers or at the front of the class and open a real book and learn how to print and write properly by hand. Also Canadian students generally had higher grades than their American counterparts.

You would be amazed by how many kids that don't pay attention and the teachers pass them even though they fail at the subjects. It's a poor education system.

Maryann Massar I live in Canada (Manitoba) and winter in South Carolina. When people ask me where I'm from I try to explain in terms that they will understand - "North of North Dakota". They dont' know where North Dakota is. I can identify every state on a map of the US and tell you the capital city of most.

Michael L Reinhardt, Most students do learn this, at least they are taught. Unfortunately, studying and having parental support for it aren't a priority as it is in the Far East and most European countries. Education is not emphasized nor supported by our government or population in general.

Bill Coe, You could say North of South Dakota and if they say North Dakota, say no, further. I am in the North Island of NZ. I describe it as North of the South Island which is south of the North Island.

Pierre Curtis, you almost have to if you wish to travel. We have states larger than most european countries. The people that live in them have yet to see all of their own state. There is plenty to see in the US and very few people have seen all 50 states. Besides until just recently we could travel through Mexico and Canada without a passport. Also most countries don't require passports for US military personnel, I spent over 20 years in the military and traveled all over, Europe, Asia and the Mid East without a passport.

kite005, I think it is because students are learning less and less, in some school systems. I even had anatomy and physiology in high school many years ago, but did not hear about transpiration. Thank you, Christine, James's wife

A guess, but I picked the right one!

Plants "sweat" out as water per day that they taken in. I have often walked beneath trees on a clear day and felt a drop of moisture drip on me. Tree sweat!

Odd, how transpiration as a noun is still generally only used scientifically, but transpire as a verb has passed into general/figurative vocabulary.
