The reign of Pharaoh Pepi II Neferkare (2284 - 2184) of the Sixth Dynasty in Egypt's Old Kingdom is considered to have been for a very long period of time. It is said to have covered 94 years. Neferkare ascended to the throne in 2278 BC when he was six years old. He reigned until his death in 2184 BC at the age of 100 years old. He was in power for a decade longer than King Sobhuza II.

Pharaoh Pepi II Neferkare proved to be an incredibly popular monarch. He created a society that fostered major advances in architecture, art, and technology. Fueled by an increased agricultural productivity and resulting growth in population, he promoted a well-developed central administration. Some of his crowning achievements included building great pyramids at Giza, Ṣaqqārah, Dahshūr, and Abū Ruwaysh. Under his direction, state officials collected taxes, began and finished civic construction projects, coordinated irrigation projects, and used a justice system to maintain appropriate peace and order.

Neferkare's death is said to have caused widespread chaos and instability in Egypt. At the time of his death, he had outlived all of his family except his daughter. She was old and considered senile when she ascended to the throne and became Pharaoh Nitokeri. She died around 2181 BC.
