The Renaissance era in Europe challenged the beliefs of what church?
The European Roman Catholic Church of the Middle Ages had a large impact on people's lives: their everyday life, art and education resulted from the fixed religious beliefs. Approximately in the middle of the 14th century European people felt no longer content with such a way of life, so they became more interested in expanding their knowledge of classic history and art. That's how the period of Renaissance started.
This era became a true rebirth of society and a kind of a bridge from the Middle Ages to the modern times and culture. The Roman Catholic Church was challenged on a number of fronts, as by the end of 16th century it eventually lost its key position as the supreme moral and political power in Europe. The Renaissance witnessed the end of the old and reactionary medieval spirit and led to significant results, which formed the art and culture in the way we know it nowadays.

I am a catholic and I realize during that time period there were a lot of things wrong, and some bad things happened, however a true catholic perseveres and always keeps looking for the right path. I know some religious groups that came out of this period preach like better than others, however if you look at slavery in the US that was a product of Protestantism, so let's keep the Catholic bashing down to a minimum. There are good Catholics and bad Catholics just like any other group.

I'd say the Protestant Reformation challenged the beliefs of the Catholic Church a lot more than "the Renaissance", but hey, that's just me. Good question and explanation.

This is contentious. The finest flowering of the period was the Florentine Renaissance. It was largely bankrolled through the powerful Medici dynasty, one of whom was a pope!

Respectfully, it never fails to amaze me, that thewreligion which gave birth to Catholicism and is equally as large or almost as large, that being the Orthodox Faith, is never mentioned. I strongly suggest, that people get back to their history books, and not what is being told them, based on various churches policies.

Toward the end of the fifteenth century, there was massive persecution, both of Protestants by Catholics and, indeed, of Catholics by Protestants. A shameful period in church history. This spilled over into political life and drove the enmity between Elizabeth I and Mary Queen of Scots, who was executed. The gunpowder plot and the attempted invasion of England, involving the Spanish Armada were, I believe, part of this scenario. Today, the two groups co-exist peacefully, we trust. And in both groups, the Catholics and the various Protestant denominations, there are many devout Christians and many hypocrites.

Michael Johnston, because Rome is the birth place of Papacy/Vatican. And it ruled (controlled) rulers. Until Henry the VIII wanted another divorce and the Pope was too busy running from enemies to grant it. Henry VIII decided that the King of England didn't need permission from anyone. So he created the Church of England. That did not stop the onslaught of the Catholics to bring England back into tge fold.
