Foo Fighters is an American rock band formed in 1994 by Dave Grohl, a former drummer for the band Nirvana. The band's name comes from the term "foo fighter" used by aircraft pilots in World War II to refer to unidentified flying objects (UFOs). It was first used in 1944, when pilots flying over Germany at night reported seeing fast-moving glowing objects in the sky. Initially, the Allied pilots believed they were witnessing secret weapons employed by the Nazis. This theory was disproven when enemy pilots also reported the objects. Despite numerous theories, an explanation has never been settled upon.

The alternative rock band Foo Fighters started as a one-man project by Grohl, who performed all of the instruments himself on his record demos. Several record labels expressed interest, and Grohl's recordings were released as the Foo Fighters' debut record in 1995. The album, which reached the top 25 on the Billboard 200 chart, included the singles 'I'll Stick Around' and 'Big Me'.

Grohl hired a band to support him on the tour for his debut album. Together, they released another album, 'The Color and the Shape', in 1997, which won a place in the Billboard Top 10 and a Grammy nomination.

Current members of the band include Dave Grohl as the lead vocalist, Pat Smear and Chris Shiflett on guitar and backing vocals, Nate Mendel on bass, Taylor Hawkins on drums and Rami Jaffee on keyboard.
