Human tears have a chemosignaling function. For reasons not fully understood, the smell of female tears makes men feel less sexually aroused and has been shown that levels of testosterone are actually reduced.

Salty water trickled down a woman's face had no effect so there must be a chemical in the tears that is responsible for the signalling. The men did not see the ladies crying but were exposed to the collected tears after they cried while watching sad movies.

Many animals communicate by chemical signals and this data shows that humans clearly have a means of chemical communication.
