The symbols of the American states represent the spirit and features of their residents and territory. The state of Ohio is often associated with the Buckeye, its main mascot.

In 1953, Ohio Legislature designated the Buckeye 'Aesculus glabra' as the state tree. The nuts produced from the tree resemble the color and shape of a buck deer. The Buckeye trees can be found in large numbers within the state borders growing along the rivers, streams and in the flood plains of Ohio.

Residents from the state are referred to as Buckeyes, and the state's famous nickname is the Buckeye State. As the main mascot of the state, the tree provided Ohio with many different symbols, from the name of the state athletic and football teams to numerous visual emblems, decorations, postcards and stamps popular among the state residents.
