Frank Lloyd Wright who lived from June 8, 1867 until April 9, 1959 was an American architect, interior designer, writer, and educator, who designed more than 1,000 structures, 532 of which were completed. He was born in the farming town of Richland Center, Wisconsin. He grew up in Wisconsin; he worked most of his life in that state and in the mid-west area of the United States.

Wright believed in designing structures that were in harmony with humanity and its environment, a philosophy he called organic architecture. Wright's work possessed original and innovative examples of many building types, including offices, churches, schools, skyscrapers, hotels, and museums.

It is known that his creative life spanned more than 70 years. He was recognized in 1991 by the American Institute of Architects as "the greatest American architect of all time".
