Angélica Beatriz del Rosario Arcal was born into an upper-middle-class family of Spanish descent on July 28, 1928, in Buenos Aires, but relocated to the city of Rosario with her family at age seven.

She married in Rosario and adopted her husband's surname and was known, until her death, as Angelica Gorodischer. She died at 93, on February 5, 2022, at home in Rosario, Argentina.

Rosario is the third-most populous city in Argentina, with an important port on the Paraná River, 303 km (189 m) northwest of Buenos Aires. Greater Rosario had an estimated population of 1,750,000 as of 2020.

Gorodischer was interested in the absurd, dreams, myths; the relationship between man and the universe, man and God, power and death; and the unknown.

She was a prolific author of fiction and non-fiction, wrote in a variety of genres, including science-fiction, fantasy, crime, and stories with a feminist perspective. Best known for "Kalpa Imperial" ("Imperial Kalpa"); a collection of linked novels “La casa del poder” ("The House of Power”, 1983) and “El imperio más vasto” ("The Vast Empire", 1983), her other works include “Los embriones del violeta” ("The Violet’s Embryos”, 1973); "Trafalgar", 1979); "Prodigios" (“Prodigies”, 1994); and "Tumba de jaguares" (“Jaguars’ Tomb”, 2005).

Gorodischer was awarded the title of Illustrious Citizen by the City Council of Rosario in 2007. She received a World Fantasy Award for lifetime achievement in 2011.
