Texas has over 6000 lakes, and over twice that many rivers and streams. With all that water Texas has only one naturally occurring (not created by man made dams and spillways) lake. It is Caddo Lake which Texas shares with Louisiana.

According to Caddo Indian legend, the lake was formed by an earthquake caused by a Caddo chief's failure to obey the Great Spirit. A more likely explanation is that the Lake was formed behind by a log jam in the Red River. In 1874 the United States government destroyed the log jam, or Red River Raft, as it was called at the time.

Caddo Lake is named for the Caddo Indians who lived primarily in East and Northeast Texas.

Caddo Lake is a lovely, peaceful, lake surrounded by Bald Cypress trees with their knees sticking up above the water. The cypress trees are covered in halos of Spanish Moss. The fortunate outdoors man will see an abundance of wildlife including otter, beaver, turtles, fish, alligators, birds, snakes, and many kinds of insects. (Personal Observation)
