A princess from a small but influential German duchy, Henry found the real Anne less attractive than her portrait. They were married, but the marriage was annulled 6 months later on the pretext of an earlier marriage contract with a prince of Lorraine.

Anne received a large pension, the title of "The King's Sister" and several manors. She lived in England for the remainder of her life, apparently content. During the reign of Edward VI, she was somewhat sidelined. Edward failed occasionally to remit her pension and reduced the number of her estates.

Queen Mary held her in some esteem and she rode with Princess Elizabeth in the coronation procession. She was familiar at court until she had a falling out with the Queen over Mary's marriage. She died in her 40's at Chelsea Manor, probably a victim of cancer. She was remembered fondly by friends and servants and remembered most, if not all of them in her will.
