Archie Mason Griffin, born 21 August 1954 in Columbus, Ohio, played as a running back for The Ohio State University Buckeyes from 1972 - 1975. He was the first player ever to start in four consecutive Rose Bowl games.
During his freshman year at Ohio State, Archie did well. His performance took off his sophomore year. In their four seasons with Griffin as their starting running back, the Buckeyes posted a record of 40-5-1.
Archie won his first Heisman Trophy his junior year, having come in fifth for the placement his sophomore year. Continuing his expanding rushing record, Archie was chosen for the Heisman again his senior year. He has been the only NCAA football player to date {2020} to win the award twice.
Over his four-year collegiate career, Griffin rushed for at least 100 yards in thirty-four games, including an NCAA record thirty-one consecutive games. Archie won several other sports awards, including a unique award from the Rose Bowl: On 1 January 2014, Griffin was named the All-Century Player of the Rose Bowl Game during the celebration of the 100th Rose Bowl Game.
