Tony's mother, Livia, lived in which retirement community on the American television series "The Sopranos"?
Olivia "Livia" Soprano, played by American actress Nancy Marchand (1928-2000), is a fictional character on the American television series "The Sopranos" (1999-2007). She is the mother of the main character, Tony Soprano (James Gandolfini), and wife of Tony's father, "Johnny Boy" Soprano. She is abusive and downright hateful towards her son, Tony. Series creator David Chase has stated that the main inspiration for the character was his own mother.
As the series develops, the audience learns that Livia causes problems for Tony as revenge for putting her in a retirement home called Green Grove, and putting her house up for sale. Regular viewers also learn that Green Grove Retirement Home is home to mothers of other characters on "The Sopranos".
Livia was a miserable, selfish, and unpleasant pessimist, who became worse after her relocation to Green Grove. She was known for uttering such phrases as "Poor you!" and "I gave my life to my children on a silver platter."
She pretended to be a harmless old widow, but Tony recalls that he can't ever remember his mother visiting his father's grave. His psychiatrist speculates that Livia might have suffered from some form of borderline or narcissistic personality disorder.
In 2016, "Rolling Stone" magazine ranked her #3 of their "40 Greatest TV Villains of All Time". Her character came to an end with the death of Nancy Marchand from lung cancer.
