Steve Berry is an American author, professor and former attorney currently living in St. Augustine, Florida. He is a graduate of Mercer University's Walter F. George School of Law. He was a trial lawyer for 30 years and held elective office for 14 of those years. He is a founding member of International Thriller Writers—a group of more than 3,000 thriller writers from around the world—and served three years as its co-president.

His heroic character, Cotton Malone, is a former Navy pilot, JAG lawyer and Secret Service Agent who became a spy for fictional U.S. Government agency called the Magellan Billet. Malone retired from the Billet and opened an old book store in Copenhagen. However, he still aids the Billet and the President of the U.S. from time to time.

Malone made his debut in the 2006 novel "The Templar Legacy" and makes his 12th appearance in the 2017 release "The Lost Order."
