What American TV show's theme song was titled "Those Were The Days"?
"All in the Family" is an American television sitcom, based on the British sitcom "Till Death Us Do Part", that aired on CBS for nine seasons, from January 12, 1971, to April 8, 1979. Later it was produced as the continuation series "Archie Bunker's Place", which picked up where "All in the Family" had ended and ran for four more seasons through 1983.
The show revolves around the life of a working-class man and his family. The show broke ground in its depiction of issues previously considered unsuitable for a US network television comedy, such as racism, antisemitism, infidelity, homosexuality women's liberation, rape, religion, miscarriages, abortion, breast cancer, the Vietnam War, menopause, and impotence. Through depicting these controversial issues, the series became arguably one of television's most influential comedic programs.
The series' opening theme song "Those Were the Days", was written by Lee Adams (born August 14, 1924) and Charles Strouse (born June 7, 1928).
It was presented in a unique way for a 1970s series, the shows lead actors Carroll O'Connor (August 2, 1924 – June 21, 2001) and Jean Stapleton (January 19, 1923 – May 31, 2013) were seated at a spinet piano singing the tune together on-camera at the start of every episode, concluding with applause from a studio audience.
A longer version of the song was released as a single reaching number 43 on the "US Billboard Hot 100" and number 30 on the "Billboard Adult Contemporary" chart in early 1972.
