Belgium, officially the Kingdom of Belgium, is a sovereign state in Western Europe. Belgium shares borders with France (620 km), Germany (167 km), Luxembourg (148 km) and the Netherlands (450 km). Its total area, including surface water area, is 30,528 square kilometres; land area alone is 30,278 km2. It lies between latitudes 49°30 and 51°30 N, and longitudes 2°33 and 6°24 E.

Belgium has three main geographical regions: the coastal plain in the north-west and the central plateau both belong to the Anglo-Belgian Basin; the Ardennes uplands in the south-east are part of the Hercynian orogenic belt. The Paris Basin reaches a small fourth area at Belgium's southernmost tip, Belgian Lorraine.

Try Bruges on Ascension day for the Feast of theHoly Blood procession. Fabulous! We went fro Lille with French friends years ago Worth a journey !

Chris Braid, Agreed Chris. I spent 3 days there over Easter, back in 2010 and took hundreds of photos of the canals, bridges, cobblestone streets, old houses and the like. Almost like a fairy tale. The beer was good and strong and the chocolate was heaven sent.
