It is bowling at the end of the match. Typically they are last or final 10-15 overs in ODI (International One Day Cricket series of 50 overs) and last 5 overs in a T20 ( 20 overs Cricket series). The term is derived by the fact that batsmen try to slaughter bowlers, scoring as many as runs as possible.

As Batting side opinion - "The more you hit in last couple of overs (45-50 overs ODI match) or (15-20 overs in T20 match), 30% chances added to secure defend target". The batsmen would resort to unorthodox methods just to hit sixes or score runs by hitting the ball towards the unprotected parts of the field. Since the goal is to score maximum runs, good batting techniques are not observed during death overs.

As Bowling side opinion - "The less you run give to opponent team, your winning chances should be automatically increased". If a bowler prohibits the batsman in either hitting the ball or to hit for six, then the fielding team can prevent the batting team from gaining more runs. Slow bowling , good yorker( a delivery that is intended to pitch directly underneath a batsman's bat or on his toes) are tactics adopted by bowlers.

So, that's why last overs are called Death overs or Slog overs in cricket. A maiden over is an over in which no runs are scored that counts against a bowler. Among top batsmen during Death overs are Kieron Pollard, M.S.Dhoni and Andre Russell. Name of Latish Malinga and Sunil Narine, Rashid Khan are among the top bowlers.
