What are the Bahamas?
The Bahamas consist of over 700 islands, that occupy 180,000 square miles of ocean space. They are located in the Atlantic Ocean, just east of the Florida Keys and Cuba. Columbus's first landing in the new world (1492) was in the Bahamas. The islands were mostly deserted from 1513 till 1648. At that time British colonists from Bermuda started to settle on Eleuthera island. The Bahamas became a British crown colony in 1718, as the British tried to control pirates that operated from the islands. The Bahamas became a British independent Commonwealth realm in 1973. Today the Bahamas are one of the world's favorite vacation destinations, especially for cruise ships.

There are two right answers given. The Bahamas are an independent British Commonwealth - not a British Commonwealth. They are also an independent country. This should be worded more carefully.

The reviewers got this one wrong badly. The author left out the part in the wikipedia reference that states The Bahamas is an independent country in addition to being a British Commonwealth nation. I guess the reviewers and author do not consider India, Canada and Australia independent nations but rather only British Commonwealth nations.

I said independent country, got wrong.. I know I live in Canada, member of Common wealth, but hey thought we were still independent country. Guess , I know nothing. Or totally know nothing.

Very poor question, it's a bit like asking whether Australia is an independent country or a British Commonwealth! It's both, just like the Bahamas.
