What are the nominal dimensions of a "Face Cord" of fireplace wood?
Lumberjacks measure cut logs by volume in units called cords. Fireplace wood is sold by the cord or fraction of a cord. A full cord of logs measures 4' high by 8' wide by 4' deep. A "Face Cord," sometimes called a "Fireplace Cord" or "Rick" has the same "Face" dimensions as a Full Cord, that is, 4' high by 8' wide. While the depth can vary quite a bit, it is most commonly 16" deep because that log length easily fits into household wood burning fireplaces and stoves. A Face Cord is nominally 1/3 of a Cord.
