What band was Roy Orbison a part of just before he died?
Although all of the options are supergroup bands, Roy was part of only one - The Traveling Wilburys. A supergroup band is when a group of professionals (in this case, Roy Orbison, George Harrison, Bob Dylan, Jeff Lynne, and Tom Petty) get together to make a band.
Roy Orbison (1936-1988) started like many others of his era - in a small local band while still in high school. He did fairly well at first, but his career really took off in the early '60s. He had songs such as "Only the Lonely", "Crying", and "Oh, Pretty Woman".
Roy's career started to go down in the late '60s, after some big tragedies hit. First, his wife, Claudette, died in a motorcycle accident. Then, while on tour in England in 1968, he got news of his house in Hendersonville, TN, burning down. His two eldest sons died in the fire. His youngest son survived, and was raised by Roy's parents.
Later, he did remarry. Together, he and his second wife had two sons.
In 1988, he worked with Jeff Lynne, who had just finished production with George Harrison. They then got in touch with Bob Dylan and Tom Petty. Together they formed the Traveling Wilburys. Some of their more popular songs are "End of the Line", "Handle With Care", "Last Night", and "Not Alone Anymore".
Unfortunately, soon after the band started producing albums, Roy Orbison started to complain of chest pains. He had a heart attack on December 6, 1988, and died at the age of 52.
