Fred McFeely Rogers (March 20, 1928 – February 27, 2003) was an American television personality, musician, puppeteer, writer, producer, and Presbyterian minister. Rogers was famous for creating, hosting, and composing the theme music for the educational preschool television series Mister Rogers' Neighborhood which aired from 1968–2001. The show featured his kind-hearted, gentle, soft-spoken personality, and directness to his audiences.

An urban legend has been going around saying that Mr. Rogers was a sniper in the military. According to the myth he had multiple confirmed kills, and had a tattoo depicting each one. This is the reason he wore cardigan sweaters every episode. Depending on the source, Mr. Rogers was either a Navy Seal, USMC Sniper, or Army Ranger.

In reality, Mr. Rogers never served in the military. He was red-green color blind, and probably would not have passed a military physical. The sweaters he wore were not to cover up tattoos, but instead was an homage to his mother who knitted all of the sweaters he wore on the show.
