During the first weekend in June, Downtown Patterson hosts the town's largest celebration of the year, the Apricot Fiesta. The event begins on Friday with several beauty pageants. The Patterson Library hosts an art show during the celebration, and displays on local history are held open to the public at the Patterson Museum, also known as the Center Building and located at the center of Patterson. The three-day celebration also features fireworks shows and, during early mornings, hot air balloons departing from the football stadium at Patterson High School.

Actually, it's called the Apricot Festival. I grew up in Modesto. Gramps was chief of police there decades ago, and became county sheriff later. There are probably entries that include him in the library museum. He was also grand marshal at least a few times, probably several. I miss those apricots.

As a kid growing up in Redwood City, CA we had 6 apricot trees in our yard and our own sulfur box. If you've never tasted dried apricots picked ripe and suffered then sun dried you've missed something great. From Palo Alto to San Jose was all orchards back then, now it's Silicone Valley and populated by billionaires. Homes that went for $9,000.00 new in 48' now top a million, where do working people live?
