The Lone Ranger was a fictional hero in the old west who was created for radio in 1933 by George Trendel or Fran Striker (open to debate). The Green Hornet was introduced on his own radio show in 1936. Both have since spawned books, comic books, television shows and movies.

The Lone Ranger was the survivor of an ambush of a group of Texas Rangers by the outlaw Butch Cavendish and his gang. Although his first name is never given, his last name is revealed to be Reid. In 1942, the radio series introduced Dan Reid, Jr., The Lone Ranger's nephew, as a young sidekick to the masked hero.

The Green Hornet is secretly Britt Reid, wealthy publisher of the Daily Sentinel, and the son of Dan Reid, Jr.

In the 1940s, Dan Reid, Jr. appears in both the Lone Ranger and the Green Hornet radio shows and his connection as the bridge between the two masked heroes is revealed. Dan Reid, Jr. both adventured with his uncle, "The Lone Ranger" and later discovered that his son was carrying on the family legacy as a masked hero, The Green Hornet.
