The word "nine" spelled in Tengwar, an Elvish script created by J.R.R. Tolkien, was tattooed on eight of the nine members of the Fellowship. This was done at a tattoo parlor in Wellington, New Zealand. The one who did not get a tattoo was John Rhys-Davis (Gimli the dwarf). He sent his stunt double in his place.

You can see Viggo Mortensen's (Aragorn) in "Eastern Promises" on his left shoulder. Orlando Bloom's (Legolas) can be seen on his forearm in "Pirates of the Caribbean: Curse of the Black Pearl".

The "Lord of the Rings" trilogy was very successful. The first movie, "The Fellowship of the Ring", was reported to make $66,114,741.21 on its opening weekend in the US. That's roughly 2/3 of its estimated budget. The worldwide gross was $871,530,324.25.
