What do the Rolling Stones want painted black in their song "Paint It Black"?
The Rolling Stones in their song "Paint It Black" want a red door painted black. The group has been together for over half a century and hold the record for the most recorded songs of all time. One of their most iconic songs is “Paint It, Black”. Released in 1966, "Paint It Black" was the first single from their fourth album, "Aftemath". The song is the one that became an anthem for fans of the 1960s counter culture music movement.
Mike Jagger in several public interviews with music critics stated, "There was no specific inspiration for the lyrics." When asked why he wrote a song about death and depression, Jagger replied: “I don’t know. It’s been done before. It’s not an original thought by any means. It all depends on how you do it.”
Jagger states that the song was written about a fictitious woman's funeral. It had nothing whatsoever to do with war or events of aggression where a large number of people can be killed. Had director Stanley Kubrick not used it in the end credits of "Full Metal Jacket" (1987), it never would've taken on a particular war connotation.
