What does CV stand for and mean related to career management?

"Curriculum vitae" is a Latin expression which can be loosely translated as the course of life. It is a brief account of a person's education, qualifications, and previous occupations. It is usually abbreviated to CV.

A CV is usually requested from candidates applying for a job. This term is most widely used in Europe.

It can also be known (especially in the US) as a résumé. A typical CV/ résumé contains a "summary" of relevant job experience and education. The CV/résumé is usually one of the first items, along with a cover letter and sometimes an application for employment, which a potential employer sees regarding the job seeker and is typically used to screen applicants, often followed by an interview.
