The letters DVD stand for Digital Versatile Disc (Formerly Digital Video Disc).DVD was originally used as an initialism for the unofficial term digital videodisk. Digital Versatile Discs provide video, audio and data storage and access, all on one disc. A DVD is the same size as a CD but with seven times the capacity on a single side most commonly used to store and display full-length movies. The DVD-Video format was first introduced in Japan in 1996.
