The letters DVD stand for Digital Versatile Disc (Formerly Digital Video Disc).DVD was originally used as an initialism for the unofficial term digital videodisk. Digital Versatile Discs provide video, audio and data storage and access, all on one disc. A DVD is the same size as a CD but with seven times the capacity on a single side most commonly used to store and display full-length movies. The DVD-Video format was first introduced in Japan in 1996.

The DVD (common abbreviation for digital video disc or digital versatile disc) is a digital optical disc data storage format. It was invented and developed in 1995 and first released on November 1, 1996, in Japan. DVD stands for digital versatile disc or digital video disc. The name “digital versatile disc” was adopted over “digital video disc” because computer companies complained that “digital video disc” didn’t allude to all the applications that DVDs could hold. The versatility of the DVD is one of its biggest selling points, so this name change makes practical sense.

Got it right. My first guess was "video drive," too but the word "drive" kind of puzzled me so I went for "versatile" instead.

I never used it for movies , only theater-original can make artistic-soul impression , not dvd copy for general information , period, but music is different.
