All things can be corrosive, either it's acidic or alkaline. The way any individual can determine acidity or alkalinity is by finding out what the pH is of the substance. pH is the negative log of hydrogen ion concentration in a water-based solution. The term "pH" was first described by Danish biochemist Søren Peter Lauritz Sørensen in 1909. pH is an abbreviation for "potential of hydrogen" or "power of hydrogen" in the German translation where "p" is short for power, potenz and H is the element symbol for hydrogen. This verifies that anything that is hydrogen base or has hydrogen will be either acid or alkaline, left or right of base. The test that is used to determine the pH of a substance is called the litmus test. This test uses a dye that is either red or blue, depending on the pH of the substance being analyzed.
