A Roy Rogers, named after the singing western actor, is a famous 'Mock-tail', which is a mixed drink with no liquor in it. Adding grenadine, a syrup actually made from pomegranates, creates a cherry-like flavor when it mixes with soft drinks, most notably Coca-Cola.

Other famous mock-tails include the Arnold Palmer (iced tea & lemonade), Shirley Temple (grenadine & Sprite/7-Up), and Virgin Mary (a Bloody Mary with no vodka, also called a 'Bloody Shame'!).

These old-fashioned soda drinks are often mixed and served at parties for expectant mothers, AA members, guests unable to have liquor for medical reasons, those under the legal drinking age, and designated drivers.
