On January 15, 1967 the Green Bay Packers and the Kansas City Chiefs faced off for the first Super Bowl. The Chiefs finished the 1966 season with a 11-2-1 record while the Packers' record stood at 12-2 for the season.

The Chiefs dominated the first half of the game, gaining 181 yards to the Packers' 164. At halftime the score was 14-10. Then in the third quarter, Green Bay safety Willie Wood intercepted a pass and carried the ball 50 yards to the 5 yard line. This unleashed the Packers who went on to score 21 unanswered points. The Quarterback Bart Starr completed 16 of 23 passes for 250 yards with two touchdowns and one interception. He was named MVP. With three Chiefs failing to scare any points I the second half, the Packers won the game 35-10.

Super Bowl I is the only Super Bowl simulcast in the US by two networks. NBC and CBS were both allowed to televise the game.

The Packers went on to win Super Bowl II over the Oakland Raiders with a score of 33-14. They did not make it to the Super Bowl again until 1997 when they defeated the New England Patriots 35-21.

In 1998, they were defeated by the Denver Broncos, 31-25. In 2011 they again returned to the Super Bowl and with a score of 31-25 defeated the Pittsburg Steelers claiming their fourth Super Bowl ring.

The Packers currently hold 13 league championships and have finished first in the regular season 25 times.
