What format of music recording was introduced in 1962?
In 1935 German engineers released an item called the Magnetophon, which was based on the 1928 invention of magnetic tape.
A cassette is an analog magnetic tape recording format for audio recording and playback. Released by Philips in 1962, it has been developed in Hasselt, Belgium. Compact cassettes come in two forms, either already containing content as a prerecorded cassette, or as a fully recordable "blank" cassette. Both forms are reversible by the user.
he compact cassette technology was originally designed for dictation machines, but improvements in fidelity led the Compact Cassette to supplant the Stereo 8-track cartridge and reel-to-reel tape recording in most non-professional applications.
The cassette was a great step forward in convenience from reel-to-reel audio tape recording, although, because of the limitations of the cassette's size and speed, it initially compared poorly in quality.
