What instrument is a string instrument as well as a percussion instrument?

The piano is an instrument that is both in the string and percussion section. This is because when you tap your finger on the keys it is considered percussion, however the strings inside are what make the sound making it part of the string section.

A piano has strings inside that get tapped on with a little hammer that moves when you hit the keys causing the string to vibrate making a sound.

Melissa Brooks, incorrect - the snare drum is purely a percussion instrument. The wires underneath maintain the tension in the drum and are not struck directly with the drum sticks in order to make the sound.

My guess would be any of two answers and both I believe would be right. The piano is one and the other is the violin which is thumped during some pieces of music....but don't ask me to identify the piece.
