Astraphobia is an extreme fear of thunder and lightning. Whilst most people would just shelter under a building, people with astraphobia will get a panic attack.

Astraphobia is most common in children and they usually grow out of it by the time they’re an adult. It is not uncommon for an adult to have astraphobia, but it is rare for a person to first develop astraphobia as an adult.

Astraphobia is treatable. People can get help from medical experts or treat it themselves using self expository techniques. This involves gradual exposure to thunderstorms by taking little steps, like going to the door when it thunders, and increasing the exposure until they are able to face thunderstorms without fear.
