What is Carpophobia?
Carpophobia is an extremely rare psychological disorder characterized by an irrational fear of fruits. This phobia, though not widely known, can significantly impact one's health if not managed properly.
Carpophobia is both a phobia and an eating disorder, similar to conditions like anorexia or bulimia. Those affected experience intense panic and aversion towards fruits.
The severity of carpophobia varies among individuals. Some cannot tolerate being in the same room as fruits, feel anxious at the mere mention of them, and completely eliminate them from their diet.
Fruits are vital sources of vitamins and minerals, and their absence can lead to nutritional deficiencies, affecting the immune system and causing issues like hair loss.
These deficiencies are more pronounced if carpophobia is combined with lachanophobia, the fear of vegetables. However, some carpophobes manage to consume fruits in processed forms, like smoothies, though they often cannot prepare or witness the preparation themselves.
In severe cases, carpophobes may experience intense discomfort or even fainting when in contact with fruits.
