Esperanto a constructed international auxillary language. Is the most widely spoken constructed language in the world. Polish-Jewish Opthalmologist L.L.Zamenhof published the first book detailing Esperanto, Unua Libro, in Warsaw on 26 July 1887. The name Esperanto comes from Doktoro Esperanto, the pseudonym under which Zamenhof published Unua Libro.

He had 3 goals;

1. To render the study of the language as easy as possible for the learner.

2. To enable the learner to make direct use of his knowledge with persons of any nationality; in other words to be a means of international communication.

3. To find some means of overcoming the natural indifference of mankind,in the quickest manner possible, and en masse, to learn and to use the proposed language as a living one.

According to Ethnologue published by the Summer Institute of Linguistics, up to 2 million people worldwide, to varying degrees, speak Esperanto, including 1000/2000 native speakers who learned it at birth. The World Esperanto Association has more than 5500 members in 120 countries. Its highest usage is in Europe, East Asia and South America.

Lernu, the most popular online learning platform for Esperanto reported 150,000 registered members in 2013 and 150,000 to 200,000 visitors to the site each month.

With about 242,000 articles Esperanto Wikipedia is the 32nd largest Wikipedia.

Recognised by UNESCO in 1954, and in February 2012 Google Translate added Esperanto as the 64th language.
