What is Gatophobia?

Got it right. Looked at gato and knew that meant cat in Spanish so I went with it! The fear of cats has several names; Gatophobia is just one of them.

The word "Gato" is also Greek, gata. Very rarely will a word be comprised from two different languages. If anything, the word will be comprised of Greek and Latin, in that they are both ancient languages. To take it one step further, old Latin had its roots in ancient Greek, as did the history and mythology of Rome which was adopted and converted from Greek history and mythology, with the change of names to those of Roman ones. In closing I speak with the authority of that of a Historian, as I am a Historian.

It's the same word in Portuguese.

Got it only because I know Spanish.

I knew the fear of cats as ailurophobia but I knew gato meant cat so went with that. I have a cross stitch picture hanging on my wall that someone have me. It says 'he who dislikes the cat was in his former life a rat.'. Myself I was one of those crazy cat ladies before I went in a nursing home I worked with a local rescue group and I found homes for several hundred cats. I love them.

I know a lot of people who do not like cats at all. My husband being one of them , but when we ended up with our sons cat, he has changed his mind, he even made an outdoor area for him so he can be outside but without getting out of the yard.

A much more fun reason for me....I watched "The American Tail" with my granddaugher many years ago. The mice in th movie were afraid of gato!!!
