Polydactyly or polydactylism (from Greek πολύς (polys), meaning "many", and δάκτυλος (daktylos), meaning "finger").

Having an extra finger or toe is called polydactyly (pahl-ee-DAK-til-ee). The extra digit may range from a small, raised bump to a complete, working finger or toe. Most of the time, it's smaller than the other digits and not well formed.

In the book Silence of the Lambs, Hannibal Lecter has polydactyly. They couldn't do that in the movie, though, since Anthony Hopkins only had 5 fingers. Whenever a book is turned into a movie, I read the book and watch the movie. Sometimes the movie is better, with visual effects, but most of the time books are better with more details that didn't get (or couldn't be) put in the movie.
