What is the capital of Illinois?
Springfield is the capital city of the state Illinois. European Americans settled in the late 1810s. It's only the sixth most populated city of Illinois. Abraham Lincoln is the most famous past resident of Springfield, and the city is full of historic sites connected with him.
The Illinois State Capitol, the main building of the state, is located there. It houses legislative and executive branches of the government of the state. Illinois joined the United Stated in 1818 and the capitol is the sixth such building since that times.

Chicago is just the largest city in Illinois. not surprised people would still think that, even after years of schooling. Plenty of people still think New York City is the capital of New York ( Albany is the capital ).

I should have known this one. Someone very dear to me was educated in Springfield. I attended the graduation. I missed this one and miss the graduate terribly.

Mrs. Marci, I remember that you mentioned segregation in schools existing well into the 20th century. A person I know shared last night that she had segregated classes in Virginia. That is the first person I ever met who experienced that type of racism. Thank you, Chrisitne, James's wife
