The Cumberland Gap is a low-lying geological feature in the Cumberland Mountains at the convergence of three states, Kentucky, Tennessee and Virginia. It played a pivotal role in the movement of both indigenous animal species like the buffalo, and of people before the existence of major roads, including Native American tribes. Facilitating westward migration and expansion, it served as a major route for early pioneers of the United States.

Today, its' nature trails and beautiful scenery can be explored by visiting Cumberland Gap National Historical Park.
