In Season Four of "Elementary" during episodes 1 ('The The Past Is Parent') through 24 ('A Difference in Kind') an extensive look at Morland Holmes, Sherlock's father, is provided. Morland comes to New York City to talk to Sherlock about his sobriety, legal issues, and other business matters. Morland tells his son that he is proud of his work. He can arrange for Sherlock and Watson to again work for the New York Police Department (NYPD). Season Four is complete with Morland, Sherlock, and Watson meetings, talking, and handling personal and business issues for each other.

In Season Six in episode 10, 'The Adventure of the Ersatz Sobekneferu', Morland visits Sherlock to discuss the recent death of Mycroft (Sherlock's brother) and Morland's rewriting of his will. It is at this point that Sherlock directly expresses his wish for them to let go of their old grudges.

Sherlock Holmes' father in "Elementary" is traditionally seen in a negative way. This is mostly because of the words and actions of Sherlock. For example, Sherlock tells Joan Watson (in the Series Pilot Episode) that his father owns five properties in New York and that the brownstone where they are living is the "shoddiest and the least renovated".
