Most American know that Thomas Jefferson created a great document that declared the 'just' cause of the American Revolutionary War. The heart of the document, the Declaration of Independence, is an account of Great Britain's action against America. It points out why most of the actions taken were absolutely evil. So in a single paragraph, reasons are given in writing why U.S. independence was required.

This sole paragraph says: "We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness. — That to secure these rights, Governments are instituted among Men, deriving their just powers from the consent of the governed ... To prove this, let Facts be submitted to a candid world."

It was not equality of ability that was noted. No one denied that people have differences in their abilities. As such, neither was or is it about equality of potential or outcome. Also it was not about equality of circumstance. People are born at different times and in various places. The point here is about the equality of the nature of human beings. All men – regardless of gender, race, ability or any other qualifier are the moral equal of every other individual. This is the first self-evident truth and the foundation of any and all independence in America.
