In the 1996 film, The Cable Guy, which is directed by Ben Stiller and written by Lou Holtz Jr., Chip Douglas (Jim Carrey) while performing karaoke, sings the song, "Somebody to Love" by Jefferson Airplane. This song may be seen as a way to reinforce the idea of true friendship which is keenly highlighted in the movie.

In this film, a needy, psychologically unbalanced cable-television installer (Jim Carrey) forces his friendship upon an unsuspecting bachelor, Steven M. Kovacs (Matthew Broderick). Steven has broken up with his fiancée. Then as the movie gets edgier and more desperate and funnier, Chip (the cable guy) is gradually going crazy.

As a result of Chips's behavior, things (which include a physical assault, a game of 'Porno Password', and a medieval joust) are becoming more hazardous to Steven's health. So, Steven comes to understand why Chip used the immortal words, "I can be your best friend...or your worst enemy."

Based upon Steven's actions and responses to Chip, most of us can see why he should find "somebody to love".
