What is the largest of the contiguous United States in land area?

With an area of 268,596.46 square miles, Texas is the largest of the 48 contiguous states. Only Alaska is larger with an area of 665,384.04 square miles. California is the next largest with an area of 163,694.74 square miles.

Texas broke free from Mexico in 1836 and was an independent nation for 9 years before joining the US in 1845. It was the largest US state until Alaska became a state in 1959.

The width of the entire US coast to coast is 2530 miles. The width of Texas from West to East (El Paso to Orange) is 762 miles and the longest straight-line distance is from the northwest corner of the panhandle to the Rio Grande river just below Brownsville, 801 miles.

If you don't understand a word Google it. Or, heaven forbid, look it up in the dictionary. For those millennials out there, a dictionary is a book that contains words with definitions of those words. People used to use them before Google came into being. It amazes me that people have a computer in their hands the vast majority of the time yet don't seem to be able to learn anything from it.
